Crematory Operator

The position is for

CREMATORY OPERATOR

. As such, the following are the essential responsibilities and duties: 1. Efficiently and carefully schedule the cremation of decedents; 2. Carefully and diligently cremate decedents, exercising good judgment and following in-house procedures needed to minimize and eliminate visible emissions; 3. Exercise care in the handling and storage, when needed, of decedents; 4. Promptly secure all restricted areas of the crematory before leaving for the day; 5. Keep an active and up-to-date log of cremations, noting the chain of custody and major parts of the cremation process from receipt of the remains until the release of the cremains; 6. Accurately complete and execute any certificates of cremation, receipt/release forms, and promptly deliver cremains to the designated areas, recording this information in any applicable logs at the crematory and funeral home; 7. Promptly identify every decedent received and promptly examine any accompanying paperwork, ensuring that all legally required documents and information are present; 8. Exercise caution and restraint when good judgment tells you that a cremation needs to be rescheduled; 9. Periodically organize past files; 10. Perform clerical work, including assembling temporary urns and photocopying/faxing. 11. Periodically clean cremators and accessible surfaces of the cremators and processor; 12. Periodically clean the cremation work area and any witness rooms; 13. Coordinate with funeral directors and office staff to obtain missing information, navigate logistics, and schedule cremations; 14. Perform any other task or duty delegated to you by a manager.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is: Frequently required to stand Frequently required to walk Frequently required to sit Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity Frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl Continually required to talk or hear Continually utilize visual acuity to operate cremation equipment, read technical information, and operate body lifts Frequently required to lift/push/carry items up to 200 pounds alone, and up to 400 pounds with the assistance of others. Moreover, noise levels will be high in the work area when the cremators are running. There is also exposure to high heat in the crematory work area depending on the workload in a given week. The crematory work area is not HVAC controlled, so variations in temperature will be common depending on the weather and/or use of cremators.

EDUCATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

• A high school diploma or its equivalent;
• Fluent in word processor and emailing;
• Valid and current class C Texas Driver's License
• Crematory Operator Certificate issued by an accredited entity Other Requirements Demonstrated mechanical knowledge of industrial equipment used in cremation operations or similar machinery Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently as part of daily duties At least 1 year of experience operating cremation equipment is preferred.

Knowledge of funeral directing practices or willingness to learn industry-specific procedures Strong attention to detail with excellent recordkeeping skills Ability to work respectfully in sensitive situations with compassion and professionalism Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, perform heavy lifting, and handle demanding tasks throughout the shift

Pay:

$24.00 - $26.00 per hour
