Job Description
Job Summary The Funeral Service Assistant plays an essential role in providing compassionate, professional, and respectful support to families during their time of need. This position assists with the coordination and execution of funeral services while ensuring that all arrangements are handled with care, dignity, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to work effectively in a sensitive environment, and a genuine commitment to serving families with compassion and professionalism. The Funeral Service Assistant must be able to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining a respectful and supportive presence throughout the funeral service process. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with the planning, preparation, and execution of funeral and memorial services, including facility setup, service coordination, and breakdown. Provide compassionate support and assistance to families throughout the funeral service process. Work closely with funeral directors and staff to ensure services are carried out according to the wishes and expectations of each family. Assist with the preparation and organization of funeral service areas, including seating, floral arrangements, equipment, and other necessary items. Safely perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving caskets, equipment, floral arrangements, and other materials as needed. Assist with the transportation and positioning of equipment and service-related items. Support families and guests during services by providing courteous, professional, and attentive assistance. Assist with funeral merchandise and service selections, providing families with information and helping them make informed decisions. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment throughout the funeral home and service areas. Ensure that all assigned duties are performed with professionalism, confidentiality, dignity, and respect. Assist with other funeral home operations and responsibilities as assigned by management or the funeral director. Qualifications and Requirements Previous experience in funeral service, funeral directing, hospitality, customer service, or a related field is preferred but not required. Strong organizational and event-coordination skills with excellent attention to detail. Ability to work effectively in emotionally sensitive and highly confidential situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Compassionate, respectful, and professional demeanor when interacting with grieving families and guests. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Ability to safely perform physical duties, including lifting and moving heavy items as required. Previous sales or customer service experience is preferred and beneficial when assisting families with funeral services and merchandise. Must be dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a professional appearance and attitude. Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional extended hours based on service schedules. Must demonstrate discretion and maintain confidentiality regarding family information and funeral arrangements.
