Job Description

Key Duties and Responsibilities Funeral Directors coordinate all elements of funeral services with sensitivity and strong organizational skills. Consult with families or friends of the deceased to arrange funeral details such as obituary notice wording, selection of urns or caskets, and planning of services. Family consultation — Meet with grieving families to discuss their needs and preferences for the service Body preparation — Prepare the deceased for burial or cremation in accordance with family wishes and religious or cultural customs Legal documentation — Obtain necessary legal documents, such as death certificates and burial permits Logistics coordination — Coordinate transportation for the deceased and the family to various locations Vendor management — Coordinate with third-party vendors such as clergy, cemeteries, crematories, and florists On call and work weekends — Be able to be on call some evenings, which entails answering the phone and responding to at-need calls as well as the ability to work some weekends. Create Memorial products - such as service programs and prayer cards Essential Skills and Qualifications Funeral Directors require a unique combination of empathy and meticulous organizational skills to manage sensitive logistics. Strong organizational skills and excellent communication abilities are fundamental, along with compassion and a thorough understanding of legal requirements. Emotional intelligence — Ability to manage distressing and stressful situations with sensitivity and care Communication skills — Excellent verbal and written communication skills with bereaved families and vendors Attention to detail — Detail-oriented approach to managing complex funeral arrangements and compliance requirements Legal knowledge — Thorough understanding of laws related to funerals and funeral arrangements Customer service — Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to support grieving families Technical proficiency — Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related funeral home software systems Education, Licensing, and Experience Funeral Directors must complete specialized education and obtain state licensure before practicing. At least two years of college or vocational school is required with coursework in mortuary science, and licensed according to state requirements. Mortuary science training — Coursework in mortuary science through accredited vocational or college programs State licensure — Licensed according to New Hampshire requirements or if licensed in other state the willingness to become licensed in
New Hampshire Pay:
$85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
