Position:
Full Time, Benefits Eligible, Exempt Position Summary:
Assists families with cemetery and funeral home arrangements. Performs embalming, dressing and casketing, cremations, all general office functions as needed. Ensure office is kept clean and orderly. This position is expected to actively seek to assist people in the Catholic Community in making both at-need and pre-need arrangements by being productive in pre-arrangement sales. This is a highly general position requiring flexibility and a willingness to assume a variety of roles daily, including, but not limited to, clerical, funeral director, and cemetery sales functions.
Primary Responsibilities:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of State cemetery law as well as state and federal funeral home laws.
  • Must understand Catholic funeral and burial rites.
  • Neat, professional appearance.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese is desired.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Problem solving, discretion, and interpersonal skills needed.
  • Teamwork is required.
  • Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
All applicants must be a Licensed Funeral Practitioner or can acquire a license within 60 days of employment. A licensed embalmer is preferred.
  • Two to five years previous funeral home experience required.
  • Valid driver's license.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, sit, hear, and use repetitive motion of the hands/wrists. Lifts and moves items up to 40 pounds. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, under continually tight deadlines. Work is performed in an office and field setting. Please submit your resume and cover letter to hr@archdpdx.org.
