Job Description

Job Title Laundry Technician Pay Rate Min to Mid Range Time Type Full time Summary Under direct supervision, is responsible for laundry exchange and dispensing uniforms, bedding and other linen in a detention facility; assists in maintaining adequate supply of uniforms and linen; supervises inmate workers; report writing of incidents, particularly destruction of County property, and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts daily clothing and bedding exchange for detainees in their living quarters Receives soiled uniforms, bedding and other linen issued to detainees Maintain laundry exchange record sheet Monitor inmate work teams stocking the laundry carts Monitor inmate work teams laundering soiled uniforms and linens Maintains cleanliness of laundry area Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications :
High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate Knowledge of basic laundering techniques Ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to maintain records and documents; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees and detainees Must have a valid driver's license Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test Required to work weekends, holidays and perform shift work May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Working conditions are inside an industrial laundry within a jail environment; exposure to damp/wet conditions with limited exposure to hazardous laundry chemicals, noxious odors and fumes Frequently moves items weighing up to 15 pounds Occasionally moves items weighing up to 60 pounds Occasionally moves about the laundry room Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery Positions self to perform essential functions Must be able to remain in a stationary position Working With Bexar County Bexar County offers employees a competitive salary, retirement, and benefits.
