JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Plant Operations Director, the Laundry Aide tends laundering machines to clean facility linens and personal articles of patients. Loads articles into washer and selects proper program to washer and dryer cycles. Lifts clean wet articles from washer and places them into dryers for measured time cycles. Sorts dry articles, folds and places items in appropriate storage shelves or Linen closets.
DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE
The Environmental Services Department is responsible for meeting the needs of its customers, which include all patient care areas (Med-Surg, ER, OR, outpatient and diagnostic services, doctor's offices, etc.), by providing them with a clean, sanitary and aesthetically pleasing environment while following basic established safety, cleaning and infection control practices. The scope of service includes providing suitable linen in sufficient quantities, while identifying and anticipating customers' future needs. The Department will assist in meeting the needs of all areas through revising schedules, creating items to meet unusual needs—such as curtains, cart covers, etc. This is conducted seven days a week.
JOB SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Consistently demonstrates ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Wash and dry patient clothing and facility linens. Fold and sort clothes and linens. Deliver and track all linen. Physical ability to visually inspect materials Physical ability to feed folding equipment Physical ability to use brooms, etc. Assures the availability of linens on all shifts. Understands functions of various soaps and bleaches and uses them appropriately. Assures personal and staff compliance to all State and Federal regulations including blood borne pathogens, infection control, use of hazardous materials, and fire safety. Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Cleans filters on driers as directed. Inventories supplies. Assure personal and staff compliance to Patients' Rights. Adheres to all applicable policies and procedures when working in the facility. Complies with department requirement to seek assistance or utilize appropriate lifting equipment when attempting to lift or carry loads in excess of 35 pounds. Requirements
EDUCATION
Able to comprehend and execute written and oral instruction with minimal reminder.
EXPERIENCE/SKILL SETS
General commercial laundry experience required. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Willingness to learn hospital specific infection control cleaning. Ability to collect soiled linen and sort for washing and drying. Able to wear appropriate PPE when sorting. Must be 18 for this position. Ability to read and write English.
