Costume Director, Huntington Theatre Manager Statement of Job:
Hair and Makeup run crew maintains all wigs and facial hair pieces, performs quick changes as needed, applies wigs and facial hair on and off performers, assists performers with specialized makeup needs, and maintains wig room for all performances of a show run while working in collaboration with the Wardrobe Supervisor and Associate Wardrobe Supervisor as assigned. This position is for staff seasonal full-time work
Dates of Employment:
August 31 start date With an expectation of 29 weeks and a possibility of additional weeks
Job Duties:
Apply wigs and facial hair for each performance including regular contact and communication with the actors Coordinate with sound department on mic element placement Choreograph and implement quick changes Learn and perfect the styling of each wig from the designer Maintain the wigs and facial hair daily, which includes washing, styling, and cleaning Assist performers with makeup needs, including specialized makeup, tattoo cover, up and any FX makeup/blood. Assist Wardrobe with costume garment quick changes as needed Shop and order supplies as needed. Participate in all dress rehearsals, and attends one run through prior to tech Assist with strike/clean up at end of production run Supervise use of wig room and support needs for other organizations using our space, as assigned. Follow all established safety and Covid specific policies Related duties as assigned In addition to the duties listed above, The Huntington expects the following of each employee: adheres to Huntington policies and procedures; works in a safe manner; performs duties as workload necessitates; maintains a positive and respectful attitude; communicates regularly with supervisor about department issues; demonstrates efficient time management and prioritizes workload; demonstrates regular and consistent attendance and punctuality; meets department productivity standards; participates in Huntington events as needed or required; and completes other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills :
1-3 years of previous experience (professional or academic) Experience with all hair types including: all textures, lengths, and thickness Knowledge of hair styling techniques, both modern and historical Knowledge of makeup styling techniques, both modern and historical Barber or cosmetology license a plus Ability to follow precise directions Ability to move quickly and act decisively, sometimes in semi-darkness Ability to work positively and effectively in fast-paced environment Willingness to learn Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills Must be able to lift and carry 20 lbs upstairs Background in theatre is strongly preferred but not required.
