Home to immersive experiences like Treetop Adventure Tours and Salmon Tales, our mission is to provide visitors with authentic connections to the land, the community, and the stories that make Sitka unique— through guided tours, cultural programs, high-quality food and exceptional hospitality. Position Summary We are seeking a skilled Traditional Artist Demonstrator to share and showcase Alaska Indigenous art traditions with visitors. This role combines artistic expertise, cultural storytelling, and guest engagement. The ideal candidate is passionate about preserving and sharing heritage through hands-on demonstrations and meaningful conversations. Key Responsibilities Art Demonstration & Education Create and demonstrate traditional art forms such as carving, weaving, beadwork, or other culturally significant crafts. Explain the cultural significance, history, and techniques behind each art form in an engaging and respectful manner. Offer interactive opportunities for guests when appropriate, ensuring a positive and educational experience. Cultural Storytelling Share stories that connect the art to Tlingit heritage, Sitka's history, and the natural environment. Serve as an ambassador for local culture, ensuring every interaction reflects respect and authenticity. Guest Engagement Welcome and interact with guests in a warm, professional manner. Answer questions about local art, culture, and attractions, including Sheet'ká Salmon Tales and Treetop Adventure Tours. Promote the park experiences and encourage deeper cultural participation. Operational Support Maintain a clean and organized demonstration area. Safely handle tools, materials, and supplies. Manage setup and breakdown for demonstrations. Assist with the setup and breakdown of demonstration spaces, materials, and display items as needed. Opportunities to Sell Artwork Demonstrators may offer their artwork for sale during or after demonstrations, providing guests with authentic, locally made pieces to take home. Sales must align with park guidelines and reflect cultural authenticity and respect. General Responsibilities Participate in training, staff meetings, and professional development related to cultural interpretation, visitor engagement, and artistic technique. Maintain a professional and clean appearance. Wear company-approved uniform as required. Assist with the setup and breakdown of demonstration spaces, materials, and display items as needed. Collaborate with team members, offering support and communication to ensure smooth daily operations. Work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed. Requirements Demonstrated skill in traditional Alaska Indigenous art forms. Strong communication and storytelling abilities. Previous experience in cultural interpretation, education, or hospitality preferred. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 35 lbs. Commitment to cultural authenticity and respectful representation.
