In this vital role, you will bring garments to life through expert hand sewing skills, ensuring each piece meets our high standards of quality and craftsmanship. It is important that you are someone who pays close attention to detail. Duties Complete garments using hand stitching techniques, based on sketches and designs (patterns will not be provided, but there is a pattern maker/seamstress making the actual dress) Operate efficiently and safely, maintaining consistent hand stitch quality throughout all dresses (straight lines, clean finishes) Interpret drawings and instructions correctly to ensure accuracy Perform quality checks on finished products, identifying and correcting defects or inconsistencies in stitching or fabric handling Tailoring same dresses to specific body types Knowledge of how to handle different fabrics and how to hand sew them to fit flatteringly on body Qualifications Proven experience in hand sewing, with a strong understanding of sketches and directions Skilled and experienced in sewing techniques including hemming, adjusting due to client size, understanding designer's sketches, and clean finishes Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work The position will be in the studio part-time either Monday and Tuesday from 9-3 or Monday and Wednesday from 9-3, and may be more or less days a week depending on how much work we have. This position can grow into a full-time position. Pay per hour depends on experience, so I will be happy to see previous garments. A love for couture is a plus!
