Essential Elements:
Print PainterGENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs a variety of journey-level duties in the preparation of surfaces and the mixing and application of paint or other surface coatings; and performs related duties as assigned.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a full journey-level class in the maintenance and construction trades series. Incumbents perform their duties independently, working from general instructions and work orders.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class. There will typically be an assigned schedule for these duties. 1. Prepares a variety of surfaces such as wood, concrete, metal, glass, drywall and plaster for surface coverings; operates appropriate equipment and tools for removing paint or graffiti, patching holes or roughing slick surfaces as necessary. 2. Uses brushes, rollers or spray guns to apply a variety of surface coverings such as paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, lacquer or other protective or decorative finishes; uses striping equipment and diagrams to paint traffic, parking and athletic area markings. 3. Refinishes or repaints wood, metal furniture, fences or other equipment; applies primer, undercoats and finish coats as needed; mixes paints and matches colors. 4. Cleans and maintains brushes, tools and other equipment; operates and maintains sandblasters, spray guns, striping machines, saws and related equipment. 5. Erects, moves and works from ladders, scaffolding and platforms. 6. Assists other maintenance personnel as necessary.OTHER DUTIES 1.
Operates a vehicle to travel to various District sites; ensures proper maintenance of District vehicle.QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
1. Methods, equipment and materials used in the painting trade. 2. Methods of preparing a variety of surfaces for repainting, painting and finish work. 3. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures. 4. Proper methods of storing painting equipment, materials and supplies.Ability to:
1. Perform journey-level painting and finishing work. 2. Prepare a variety of surfaces for painting or other surface coverings. 3. Understand and apply painting trade safety standards and procedures. 4. Understand and follow oral and written directions. 5. Maintain tools and equipment utilized in the painting trade. 6. Maintain tools and equipment in clean and proper working condition. 7. Communicate effectively with others. 8. Perform heavy lifting. 9. Erect and work from scaffolding, riggings and ladders. 10. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District management, staff and others encountered in the course of work.Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and two years of journey-level experience in the painting trade. Licenses; Certificates;Special Requirements:
