Job Title:
Powder Coater / Painter and Sandblaster Job Description This role focuses on preparing and finishing custom metal products through sandblasting and powder coating in a production shop environment. You will prepare metal surfaces by removing paint, rust, and other materials, then apply high-quality powder coat finishes and assist with assembly of custom storage systems for emergency vehicles. Responsibilities Prepare metal products for finishing by performing sandblasting and shot blasting to remove paint, rust, and other abrasive materials from metal surfaces. Apply powder coating to metal components, ensuring consistent coverage, proper curing, and a high-quality finish. Perform paint preparation tasks, including cleaning, masking, and inspecting parts prior to coating. Assemble custom products that are installed into the back of police and fire vehicles, including decks, drawers, slides, and other accessories. Use a variety of hand and power tools, such as drills, panel saws, table saws, staple guns, and rivet tools, to cut, drill, fasten, and fabricate components made of metal and wood. Measure and mark materials accurately using tape measures and basic math to ensure precise cuts, alignments, and fits. Perform light metal fabrication as needed to prepare parts for assembly and finishing. Lift and move materials and finished products weighing up to 75 pounds safely and consistently throughout the shift. Maintain an organized and clean work area, including individual workstations, welding bays, and paint prep areas. Follow safety procedures at all times, including the use of composite-toed shoes, safety glasses, and other required protective equipment. Collaborate with team members in production to meet quality standards and production schedules. Inspect finished products for quality, ensuring they meet specifications before they are sent out. Essential Skills Experience with powder coating processes, including preparation, application, and curing of powder coat finishes. Experience with painting and paint preparation in a production or shop environment. Hands-on experience with sandblasting or shot blasting to prepare metal surfaces by removing paint, rust, and other materials. Proficiency using hand tools such as drills, staple guns, rivet tools, and other common shop tools. Proficiency using power tools, including panel saws, table saws, and other cutting and fabrication equipment. Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure and apply basic math skills to measure, mark, and cut materials. Ability to lift and handle up to 75 pounds safely and repeatedly. Comfort working in a welding and fabrication shop environment with paint booths and production equipment. Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with both metal and wood components. Attention to detail to ensure high-quality finishes and precise assembly of custom products. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in production, fabrication, or manufacturing environments. Experience assembling custom or specialty products using a variety of tools and materials. Demonstrated ability to work independently at a dedicated workstation while contributing to a larger production team. Previous projects or work experience involving power tools and hands-on fabrication. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to custom, one-of-a-kind builds. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a welding and fabrication shop that, while older, is organized and provides each employee with their own workstation, including welding bays, work tables, and access to large paint booths for finishing and preparing products. The environment is production-focused, working with metal and wood components and using a range of hand tools, power tools, and finishing equipment. This is a first-shift position, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with typical workweeks of approximately 45 to 50 hours. Composite-toed shoes and safety glasses are required at all times, and additional personal protective equipment may be used as needed to ensure a safe and efficient workspace. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boise, ID. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr.
