Job Description

Job Summary:
The R&D Technician supports the research and development team in designing and prototyping high-quality marine furniture. This role involves building functional prototypes, creating precise paper patterns, and working collaboratively with engineering, production, and design teams to bring innovative ideas from concept to reality.
Key Responsibilities:
Prototype Development
  • Construct and assemble physical prototypes of marine furniture using a variety of materials, tools, and methods.
  • Manufacturing Support & Training
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to transfer prototypes into production, providing hands‑on guidance and training to ensure accurate, efficient, and consistent manufacturing processes. Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with engineers, designers, and production staff to interpret concepts, provide feedback, and make refinements throughout the development process. Testing and Adjustments
  • Assist in testing prototypes for fit, function, durability, and aesthetics; identify and implement necessary adjustments. Documentation
  • Record detailed notes, sketches, and measurements during the prototyping process for use in technical drawings and manufacturing documentation. Tool and Material Handling
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and related equipment used in prototype fabrication. Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to design improvements by providing practical input on manufacturability, materials, and construction methods.
Qualifications & Skills:
2+ years of experience in prototype fabrication, pattern making, or related hands-on technical work; marine or furniture industry experience preferred. Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and design sketches. Skilled in working with wood, foam, fabrics, and upholstery materials. Knowledge of pattern drafting, cutting, and fitting techniques. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment. High attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with CAD or 3D design software is a plus. Experience with marine-grade materials and construction standards.
