This role is responsible for sewing, repairing, altering, and fabricating fabric, vinyl, and upholstery components for hospital furniture and related furnishings. The ideal candidate has strong sewing skills, excellent attention to detail, and experience working with upholstery materials, patterns, seams, cushions, panels, and repairs. Key Responsibilities Sew, repair, and alter upholstery components for chairs, sofas, cushions, panels, and other furniture items. Work with fabric, vinyl, leather-like materials, mesh, and other healthcare-grade upholstery materials. Measure, cut, and prepare materials according to work orders, templates, or furniture specifications. Repair seams, zippers, welting, cushions, and other sewn furniture components. Assist with reupholstery projects by preparing and sewing covers, panels, and replacement parts. Inspect completed work for quality, durability, accuracy, and appearance. Follow project instructions, measurements, and production timelines. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Communicate material needs, repair concerns, or project issues to the supervisor. Support the furniture repair team as needed with related upholstery preparation tasks. Qualifications Previous sewing experience required; upholstery sewing experience preferred. Ability to operate industrial sewing machines and related sewing tools. Experience working with upholstery fabric, vinyl, or commercial-grade materials is a plus. Strong measuring, cutting, and pattern-matching skills. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship. Ability to read work orders, follow instructions, and meet deadlines. Must be dependable, organized, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Experience in furniture repair, reupholstery, or commercial sewing is highly preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and handle fabric rolls, cushions, and furniture components as needed. Ability to use hands and fingers for detailed sewing, cutting, and material handling. Ability to bend, reach, and move around a workshop environment. Preferred Skills Industrial sewing machine experience. Upholstery, cushion, or furniture cover sewing experience. Knowledge of healthcare-grade fabrics and vinyls. Ability to sew welting, boxed cushions, panels, seams, and fitted covers. Basic repair and alteration experience.
