Job Description
Upholstery Manager Summary The Upholstery Manager is responsible for leading Verellen's upholstery operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and consistent production of high-quality upholstered furniture. This role provides hands-on leadership to the upholstery team, establishes daily priorities, develops employees, and drives accountability for quality, productivity, safety, attendance, and workmanship. The Upholstery Manager works closely with Production, Product Development, Quality, Maintenance, and other departments to resolve issues, improve processes, and ensure finished product reflects Verellen's standards for craftsmanship and attention to detail. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the upholstery department, including daily workflow, staffing assignments, production priorities, and overall department performance. Train, coach, and develop upholstery employees to ensure consistent workmanship, productivity, safety, and adherence to Verellen standards. Set clear performance expectations and provide timely feedback, performance evaluations, recognition, coaching, and corrective action when appropriate. Monitor daily production output and labor efficiency; identify barriers to performance and implement practical solutions to maintain workflow and meet production schedules. Ensure upholstered products meet established quality standards throughout the production process, with particular attention to fit, tailoring, comfort, consistency, and overall appearance. Partner with Quality, Product Development, Engineering, and Production leadership to identify recurring defects, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions. Maintain strong knowledge of upholstery methods, materials, tools, equipment, and production processes in order to support employees and troubleshoot issues as they arise. Coordinate with Maintenance when equipment, tools, or facility issues affect safety, quality, or production performance. Prepare and adjust work schedules and staffing plans to support production needs, employee coverage, and business priorities. Ensure required production records, paperwork, reporting, and documentation are accurate and completed in a timely manner. Enforce company safety policies, work procedures, housekeeping expectations, and proper use of equipment and personal protective equipment. Promote a professional, respectful, and accountable work environment that reflects Verellen's Core Values and supports teamwork across departments. Identify opportunities to improve department layout, workflow, training, quality, productivity, and material utilization. Communicate department performance, staffing concerns, quality issues, and operational needs to Plant leadership. Perform other related duties and support manufacturing initiatives as assigned.
