Job Description

Job Description Overview This temporary position in the Multipurpose Lab at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine begins in August and runs through November, with the possibility of continuing through April and recurring each Fall and Spring semester. Flexible weekday hours are needed, with primary responsibilities on Tuesdays and Thursdays from August through November. Typical hours are from 9:00am - 5:00pm with flexibility required. This position involves direct contact with animals susceptible to rabies. Employees in this role must complete a rabies pre-exposure vaccination series and maintain adequate rabies antibody titer (≥0.5 IU/mL) as recommended by CDC guidelines. Auburn University will cover the cost of the rabies vaccination series, periodic titer checks, and any necessary boosters. Temporary Employment Services ( TES ), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being: Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads Assistance with special projects Seasonal work Emergencies If you are looking for an employment opportunity, TES is a great way to showcase your professional skills and assist Auburn University while gaining valuable work experience within higher education. AU students are not eligible for TES . Responsibilities Assist in instruction lab program for enrolled students which includes conveying technical information, assisting students with animal handling and technical procedures (catheter placement, induction of anesthesia, epidural placement, medications, laboratory testing, venipuncture, operating room procedures and sterility). Assist in managing facilities physical inventory to include (but not limited to) counting, stocking, ordering and compiling list of frequently used supplies and equipment. Works with coordinator to ensure appropriate supplies are ordered and maintained. Ensures high levels of safety and efficiency of laboratory operations and provides security of equipment. Assist in coordinating care, intake and discharge of animals while they are in the care of Auburn University. Helps to ensure that all animal activities are compliant with the institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) regulations.
Qualifications Veterinary Assistant:
High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience in the professional care and comfort of animals.
Veterinary Technician:
Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain national certification. Active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician, OR Have met all requirements to become licensed in the State of Alabama.
