Job Description

Countryside Animal Hospital has served the City of Montevallo and surrounding areas with trusted veterinary services since 1980. Our patients are primarily dogs and cats, and we provide routine medical, surgical, and dental care, treat emergency cases, and offer boarding and basic grooming services. Countryside also partners with local rescues and humane societies to provide quality, affordable spay, neuter, other surgical, and post-adoption care to our community. Currently, we are seeking a part-time veterinary assistant (25-35 hrs/week) to join our animal-loving work family. This individual will help ensure the daily flow of the hospital and provide exemplary patient care and client services. Here's how: Assisting DVM with appointments and diagnostic testing Preparing patients for surgery and minor procedures and assisting surgeon with surgical procedures Assisting with radiographs in accordance with federal and state laws and requirements Restraining animals in a caring, safe, effective manner Performing nail trims, expressing anal glands, and drawing blood for diagnostic testing Obtaining and charting accurate vitals, medical histories, and/or medical notes regarding the patient's condition Collecting and preparing laboratory samples, such as those for fecal and urine analysis and/or dermatology/ear cytology Utilizing and maintaining medical equipment, including laboratory and anesthesia machines, surgical tools and packs, and any other tools used in daily operations
Position Requirements:
High School diploma or GED certificate Flexible schedule, including some holiday shifts Some knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling preferred Must be team-oriented, possess strong communication skills and good judgment, and be able to manage stressful situations Must have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software and technology Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Pay & Benefits:
Starting pay range of $14 -$16/hour, based on experience Paid Time Off (vacation and sick time) Discounted veterinary care
