As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians by providing exceptional animal care, assisting with medical procedures, and ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic. Responsibilities Assist veterinary staff with animal restraint, handling, and positioning to facilitate examinations and procedures. Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments under supervision, ensuring accuracy and adherence to aseptic techniques. Support laboratory work by collecting samples, preparing specimens, and maintaining laboratory equipment. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of treatment areas, kennels, and surgical suites in accordance with health standards. Provide pet care services including feeding, bathing, grooming, and monitoring animals' health status. Assist with animal intake and discharge processes at front desk reception, including record keeping and client communication. Help with animal husbandry tasks such as feeding schedules, cleaning enclosures, and monitoring animal behavior. Support veterinary technicians during critical care procedures involving anesthesia, catheterization, or other specialized treatments. Handle diverse species including dogs, cats, and equines with professionalism and confidence. Maintain knowledge of veterinary terminology, anatomy, physiology, and current best practices in animal care. Qualifications Prior experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter setting is highly preferred. Kennel experience combined with animal husbandry skills is essential for success in this role. Familiarity with veterinary terminology, laboratory procedures, and aseptic techniques is advantageous. Experience in veterinary technician support or critical care environments will be considered a strong asset. Knowledge of animal restraint techniques for various species including dogs and horses is required. Ability to handle animals safely while demonstrating patience and compassion. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and medication administration.
