The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in animal handling, veterinary procedures, and clinical support, demonstrating enthusiasm for animal welfare and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient clinic environment. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in assisting veterinarians with medical procedures, animal restraint, laboratory tasks, and client communication, ensuring the highest standards of pet care and clinical excellence. Looking for a permanent full-time employee. This is not just a summer time job. Limited experience required, will train. Must be a good speller, have fully competent math computational skills and be able to print clearly Have taken or currently taking college level biology or chemistry Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Assist veterinarian in treatments and medical procedures. Feeding and caring of pets. Cleaning cages, runs and equipment. Be able to restrain animals, administer medications and collect samples. Maintain safe, secure, healthy and humane environment by sanitizing and disinfecting holding and support areas. Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt.
Front desk responsibilities:
answering phones, making appointments, filing, assisting clients checking in and out. Must work well with others and be able to multi-task. Full benefits available for full time. Full time must be able to work Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri. Duties Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining sterile techniques. Perform animal restraint using appropriate methods to ensure safety for both animals and staff during examinations and treatments. Collect medical samples such as blood, urine, or tissue for laboratory analysis following proper collection protocols. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of treatment areas, kennels, and surgical instruments in accordance with aseptic techniques. Provide basic pet care including feeding, grooming, and administering medications as directed by veterinary staff. Handle animals of various species with patience and professionalism, including dog handling and general animal husbandry tasks. Support kennel management by cleaning enclosures, monitoring animal behavior, and assisting with pet intake and discharge procedures. Assist with laboratory testing procedures and record keeping to support diagnostic processes. Contribute to client education by explaining pet care instructions and answering basic questions about animal health. Skills Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, restraint techniques, and veterinary terminology. Experience with medical collection procedures such as blood draws or catheterization. Familiarity with kennel management, pet grooming, dog training, and pet care routines. Proficiency in laboratory procedures relevant to veterinary diagnostics. Ability to handle animals safely using appropriate restraint methods for different species including dogs and horses. Experience working with animals requiring critical care or specialized treatment in veterinary settings. Excellent animal handling skills combined with effective communication to ensure comfort for pets and clarity for clients. Knowledge of aseptic techniques essential for maintaining sterile environments during surgical or diagnostic procedures.
