ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1.
Knowledge and ability to intake and release patients, including delivering post-operative instructions in a competent and friendly manner 2. Know basic veterinary medical concepts 3. Communicate in effective and professional manner with public, trainees, and all SPAH staff members 4. Always represent SPAH in a professional and courteous manner 5. Follow all written and verbally communicated departmental standard operating procedures 6. Responsible for prepping patients for surgery, observing all clinic procedures, to enforce sterility and safety of patients 7. General duties in the operating room during surgery, assisting with movement of patients, recovery of patients, and general flow 8. Able to monitor anesthesia, with a clear idea of abnormal conditions 9. Ensure prompt and accurate paperwork procedures are followed each day 10. Able to respond appropriately during an emergency, able to take directions from a veterinarian and/or veterinary technician, and maintain competency in CPR procedures 11. Able to work full days as a kennel assistant as assigned 12. Able to work full days as a pack assistant as assigned 13. Train veterinary assistants, new staff members, and trainees to utilize our patient care protocols 14. Able to work either first or second shift as assigned 15. All other duties as assigned Experience Ideal candidates will possess the following skills and experience: Knowledge of animal anatomy and veterinary terminology. Previous experience in animal care or as a veterinary assistant is preferred but not required. Familiarity with animal husbandry practices. Ability to handle various types of animals safely and compassionately. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with pet owners and team members. A commitment to maintaining a clean, organized work environment while adhering to safety protocols.
