The Role You will get to experience the joy of being in veterinary medicine once again! If you want high-level critical care medicine without the chaos of a walk-in emergency department, this role was built for you. Summit's ICU is unlike a typical ER/ICU environment. Every patient in our hospital is a referred specialty case or a peri-operative patient—there are no walk-in emergencies. That means your work is focused, purposeful, and deeply supported. You will work directly under the supervision of Dr. Megan Tzipory (DVM, DACVECC), our board-certified criticalist, who functions as a dedicated hospitalist. She is not shared with an emergency department—she is here for your patients and for you. This is a role for a technician or technician assistant who wants to do serious critical care medicine in an environment that values both the patient and the person providing the care. What You'll Do Provide nursing care for hospitalized specialty and critical care patients Monitor and manage critically ill patients, including ongoing treatments and reassessments Place and maintain IV catheters, urinary catheters, feeding tubes, and other supportive devices Assist with critical care procedures, including:
- Oxygen therapy
- Thoracocentesis and abdominocentesis
- Blood product administration
- Wound and drain management
- Sedation support Administer medications and treatments accurately and efficiently Monitor anesthesia and sedation for procedures as needed Communicate clearly with Dr.
Tzipory and the specialty team regarding patient status and treatment updates Maintain accurate and timely medical records Participate in rounds and contribute to case discussions Support a collaborative, respectful, and team-oriented work environment What makes this role different 1. No walk-in emergency department
- Every patient you care for has been referred to us—they are specialty surgical, neurology, ophthalmology, or oncology patients receiving planned, structured inpatient care.
- You will not be managing triage or unpredictable walk-in volume. You will be doing deep, focused critical care work. 2. Dedicated board-certified criticalist — exclusively for inpatients
- Dr. Megan Tzipory (DACVECC) is our dedicated hospitalist criticalist. She is not split between an ER and an ICU—her full focus is the inpatient population and the team caring for them.
- You will have direct access to her expertise every shift, and she is committed to your ongoing clinical development. 3. True technician and assistant utilization (scalable to your level)
- We believe everyone thrives when their work structure matches their skillset.
- We are dedicated to advancing your critical care skills and empowering you to practice at the top of your license. 4. Profit sharing (quarterly)
- All support staff are eligible to be part of our profit sharing program.
- We value your hard work (and let's be honest, we couldn't do what we do without you!), and you ddeserve to share in the financial success of what we build together. 5. Cross-training and skill development
- We actively support ICU technicians and assistants in developing and maintaining skills beyond dedicated ICU work, including opportunities for anesthesia support alongside specialty procedures.
- Skill breadth makes stronger clinicians and a stronger team — and we will invest in building yours. 6. On-call coverage
- Because our patients require around-the-clock care, we maintain a modified on-call roster for coverage when team members are unavailable.
- We are committed to building a team large enough to keep call burden minimal, and we will always be transparent about what coverage looks like before you accept an offer.
