Job Summary Join our dynamic veterinary team as a Veterinary Assistant and become a vital part of providing exceptional animal care! We are a privately owned and operated animal clinic. In the energetic role, you will assist veterinarians and technicians by providing basic animal care, safely restraining patients for exams, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining clinic hygiene. You are crucial to clinic efficiency, handling both routine medical prep and administrative duties while offering compassionate support to pets and their owners. Core Responsibilities Patient Care & Handling:
Feed, bathe, and weigh animals. Comfort anxious pets and apply safe restraint techniques during exams, vaccinations, and treatments.
Veterinary Support:
Prepare surgical equipment, set up examination rooms, and assist veterinarians and technicians with procedures and surgeries. Help monitor animals before and after anesthesia.
Lab & Diagnostics:
Help collect and process samples (e.g., blood, urine, feces) for testing. Maintaining equipment.
Facility Maintenance:
Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, sterilize equipment, and operating rooms to maintain high safety and hygiene standards.
Administrative & Client Service:
Answer phones, schedule appointments, maintain patient records, and assist in updating inventory. Educate pet owners on basic care, nutrition, and administering prescribed medications.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Requires a High School diploma or equivalent. Prefer certification or 1-2 years previous on-the-job training.
Physical Demands:
Requires the ability to stand for long periods, walk actively, and routinely lift animals weighing 40+ lbs (often with assistance).
Work Environment:
Can be both physically and emotionally demanding. Exposure to animal waste, loud noises, and potential risks of bites, scratches, and contagious diseases should be expected. Proficiency with basic computer systems and the ability to learn veterinary software quickly.
