Job Description
Job Summary Join our dynamic veterinary team as a Veterinary Kennel Assistant, where your enthusiasm and dedication will directly contribute to the health and well-being of our animal patients. In this vital role, you will provide compassionate care, maintain clean and safe kennel environments, and support veterinary staff with daily operational tasks. Your energy and attention to detail will help ensure that every animal receives the highest standard of care in a lively, fast-paced setting. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in animal husbandry, veterinary procedures, and client service while making a positive impact on pets and their families. Responsibilities Assist with animal husbandry duties including feeding, bathing, grooming, and exercising animals to promote their health and comfort. Maintain clean, organized kennels and treatment areas by disinfecting surfaces, bedding, and equipment regularly. Support veterinary technicians and veterinarians with restraint during examinations or procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff. Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinary staff, following aseptic techniques and veterinary terminology protocols. Handle animals safely using proper dog handling techniques and animal restraint methods; monitor behavior for signs of distress or illness. Assist with laboratory tasks such as sample collection or processing under supervision to support diagnostic efforts. Support front desk activities including scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and communicating with pet owners in a friendly, professional manner. Follow all safety procedures related to animal care, medication administration, and laboratory work; maintain compliance with veterinary clinic standards. Qualifications Previous kennel experience or animal husbandry background preferred; familiarity with veterinary clinic operations is a plus. Knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, restraint techniques, and pet care best practices. Experience with veterinary terminology, medication administration, aseptic technique, and laboratory procedures is highly desirable. Strong animal handling skills across various species including dogs; experience with equine care is a bonus. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and compassion for animals. Excellent communication skills for interacting with team members and pet owners professionally. Prior veterinary assistant or technician experience is advantageous; certification in veterinary assisting or related fields is a plus but not required.
