Job Description

Bay Road Animal Hospital is looking for a dependable, motivated Doctor's Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This position works closely with one of our veterinarians throughout the day, helping them move efficiently through appointments while providing safe, compassionate care to our patients. Our ideal candidate is comfortable handling dogs and cats, works well in a fast-paced environment, takes initiative, and understands that keeping rooms clean, stocked, and ready is an important part of keeping the hospital running smoothly. Bay Road Animal Hospital has two locations in Sarasota and has been serving the community since 1961. We are an AAHA-accredited small animal practice committed to providing high-quality veterinary medicine and exceptional client service. Primary Responsibilities Doctor & Appointment Support Work directly alongside an assigned veterinarian during appointments Load patients and clients into exam rooms and prepare rooms for the doctor Safely restrain dogs and cats for physical examinations, vaccinations, blood draws, injections, and other procedures Help maintain an efficient appointment flow throughout the day Clean and disinfect exam rooms between appointments Restock exam rooms and make sure necessary supplies are readily available Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients Treatment Area Support When not actively assisting the doctor with appointments, help our veterinary technicians and treatment team with: Safe patient restraint for blood draws, treatments, nail trims, ear cleanings, and other procedures Moving and positioning patients as needed Cleaning and disinfecting treatment areas Laundry and general hospital housekeeping Restocking medical and treatment supplies Keeping work areas organized and ready for patient care Assisting with hospitalized patients and general animal care as directed Preparing and cleaning surgical and dental suite Hospital Upkeep All members of our team help maintain a clean, organized, and professional hospital.
Responsibilities include:
Cleaning and disinfecting cages, kennels, exam rooms, treatment areas, and common areas Laundry, dishes, trash, and general housekeeping Unpacking and stocking hospital supplies Monitoring supplies and notifying appropriate team members when items need to be reordered Helping maintain a clean, odor-free, and welcoming environment for our patients and clients Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Availability to work approximately 35-40 hours per week Previous animal handling experience Comfortable safely restraining both dogs and cats Basic computer proficiency Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to stay organized and productive in a fast-paced environment Willingness to clean, stock, and assist wherever needed Dependable, self-motivated, and able to take initiative Preferred Qualifications Previous veterinary hospital, veterinary assistant, or kennel experience Experience assisting with veterinary appointments and patient restraint Familiarity with veterinary practice management software; Shepherd experience is a plus
Pay:
$15.00 - $19.00 per hour
