Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant and Technician to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will support the care of a diverse range of animals, including dogs and cats, in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role requires strong animal handling skills, veterinary terminology knowledge, and the ability to perform technical procedures with precision. The position offers an opportunity to work closely with veterinarians and pet owners, ensuring high-quality animal care and client service. Full and part time availability. Weekends are required and are on a rotation. 4 day work week for full time employees. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50lbs, no physical restrictions. EZYVet practice management software. Candidates without relevant experience will not be considered. Pay range starts at $18 for assistants, increases with experience and skillset. RVT w/ relevant experience is higher. Duties Assist with animal restraint during examinations, treatments, and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff. Administer medications accurately following veterinary instructions, including injections and oral medications. Perform animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, grooming, bathing, and cleaning kennels to maintain a clean and healthy environment. Support laboratory procedures by collecting samples, preparing specimens, and maintaining lab equipment. Handle pet care responsibilities including feeding, walking, and monitoring animal behavior for signs of distress or illness. Assist with animal catheterization, IV placement, and other technical procedures requiring aseptic techniques. Maintain detailed medical records using veterinary terminology to document treatments, medications, and observations. Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, managing client communications, and processing payments as needed. Contribute to critical care situations by assisting with emergency procedures under veterinarian supervision. Ensure compliance with safety protocols related to animal handling and laboratory practices. Qualifications Must have 2 years of tech/asst experience. Experience with anesthesia is preferred. Knowledge of animal husbandry, anatomy, physiology, and pet care best practices. Experience with canine and feline handling and animal restraint techniques. Familiarity with veterinary terminology and laboratory procedures. Ability to perform medication administration accurately and handle animals safely during examinations or treatments. Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and infection control protocols. Excellent animal handling skills combined with patience and compassion for animals of all temperaments. Prior veterinary assistant or technician experience is required. Ability to work effectively in a team environment while maintaining attention to detail in a busy clinical setting.
