Job Overview Cat Care of Fayette is a privately owned, exclusively feline practice also catering to mammal-exotics caseload (rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, ferrets, and pocket pets like rats and hamsters) . We're a small, close-knit team with an open culture. We're looking for a Veterinary Assistant or Technician who can hit the ground running helping in both rooms and surgery, dentals, and anesthesia. Experience with cats specifically is a strong plus; comfort learning exotic mammal handling and physiology is required (training available for species-specific nuances, but general small-mammal comfort/willingness helps). Responsibilities Assist with animal restraint, handling, and husbandry to ensure safe and stress-free examinations and procedures Support veterinary staff during surgeries, medical-surgical treatments, and critical care cases by preparing instruments and maintaining aseptic techniques Perform laboratory tasks such as sample collection, processing, and basic diagnostic testing in compliance with veterinary standards. Run anesthesia and monitor patients through surgical and dental procedures Take and process dental radiographs; perform cleanings under doctor supervision Manage kennel duties including cleaning, feeding, grooming, and monitoring animals' health status to promote optimal pet care Maintain accurate records of medical collection data, treatment notes, and client communications using veterinary software systems Ensure compliance with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulations and USDA guidelines related to medication handling and recordkeeping Provide excellent customer service at the front desk by assisting clients with appointment scheduling, pet care advice, and answering general inquiries Qualifications Prior experience in veterinary clinics or animal shelters is highly preferred; familiarity with veterinary terminology is a plus Demonstrated knowledge of animal anatomy, restraint techniques, and aseptic procedures Prior hands on experience in surgical/dental assistant role is preferred Hands-on experience with cat handling, pet grooming, and animal husbandry practices Proficiency in veterinary software applications and Microsoft Office tools for recordkeeping and communication Strong understanding of veterinary critical care procedures, laboratory processes, and drug regulations (DEA & USDA) Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration
