Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing exceptional animal care across a variety of species, including dogs, cats, and equines. This role involves hands-on animal handling, clinical support, and front desk duties to ensure smooth clinic operations. Prior experience in veterinary clinics, animal husbandry, or kennel work is highly valued. The Veterinary Assistant will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and caring environment for all animals and clients. Duties Assist with animal restraint during examinations and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff Administer medications and vaccinations following veterinary instructions with precision and care Support veterinary technicians with laboratory procedures, sample collection, and diagnostic tests Maintain cleanliness of treatment areas, kennels, and surgical suites using aseptic techniques Handle pet care tasks such as feeding, bathing, and monitoring animal behavior Assist with animal catheterization, IV placement, and other medical procedures requiring technical skill Manage front desk responsibilities including client check-in/out, appointment scheduling, and client communication Provide animal husbandry support by cleaning cages, feeding animals, and observing health status Handle various species including dogs, cats, and horses with appropriate handling techniques based on animal physiology and behavior Support laboratory work involving sample processing and basic diagnostic testing Experience Prior kennel experience or animal care background preferred Experience working as a veterinary technician or assistant in a clinical setting is highly desirable Knowledge of veterinary terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pet care best practices is essential Hands-on experience with animal restraint techniques for dogs, cats, or equines is advantageous Familiarity with medication administration protocols and aseptic techniques required Experience with laboratory procedures or laboratory equipment is a plus Strong animal handling skills across various species including dog handling and equine experience are beneficial Previous front desk or client communication experience is a plus but not mandatory Join our team to make a positive impact on the lives of animals while advancing your career in veterinary medicine.
