Job Description

The Veterinary Assistant / Technician assists the veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, maintains inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in-house laboratory work, educates clients regarding veterinary care and procedures, and assists with surgical procedures at Oswego Animal Hospital. Veterinary Assistants / Technicians play a key role in communicating with clients in person and by phone for follow-up care and patient monitoring.
Additional responsibilities include:
pharmacy prescription refills to outside pharmacies, medication refills for existing clients, check out services with euthanasia patients, invoices for appointments. The Veterinary Assistant / Technician uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions, but refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to the practitioner for decision or help. The practitioners assure that finished work and methods used are technically accurate and in compliance with instructions or established procedures. Review of the work increases with more difficult assignments, if the Veterinary Assistant / Technician has not previously performed similar assignments. Compensation commensurate with experience.
Education:
High school or equivalent preferred
Veterinary Experience:
1 year required
Veterinary Technician Experience:
1 year required
