Job Description
Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for animal care and demonstrate excellent technical skills in supporting veterinary professionals. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with animals, assist in medical procedures, and contribute to the overall well-being of our patients. The Veterinary Assistant will play a vital role in providing high-quality pet care while maintaining a safe and efficient clinical environment. Duties Assist veterinarians with medical collection procedures, including blood draws, urine samples, and other diagnostic tests. Provide animal husbandry support by feeding, bathing, grooming, and maintaining clean living spaces for animals in our care. Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques to ensure their comfort and safety during examinations and treatments. Support veterinary critical care efforts by monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with emergency procedures. Perform laboratory tasks such as preparing samples, running basic tests, and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure accurate diagnostics. Assist with animal catheterization procedures and maintain aseptic techniques to prevent infection during medical interventions. Contribute to pet care routines including pet grooming, training, and providing companionship to improve animal well-being. Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and restrain patients safely. Must be able to stand for long periods of time Must be available for a variety of shifts Monday-Saturday (every other Saturday required) Skills Strong knowledge of animal anatomy and veterinary terminology to support effective communication within the team. Experience with dog handling, animal restraint, and pet grooming techniques to ensure safe interactions with animals of various sizes and temperaments. Familiarity with veterinary critical care practices and laboratory procedures relevant to diagnostic testing. Ability to perform medical collection tasks accurately while adhering to aseptic protocols. Competence in using veterinary equipment and understanding basic veterinary procedures such as animal catheterization. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with veterinary staff, pet owners, and team members in a professional manner.
