About Us Anne Arundel Veterinary Hospital is a well-established small animal practice proudly serving our community for over 30 years. We are known for building long-term client relationships, practicing quality medicine, and maintaining a supportive, team-focused culture. We are seeking a dependable Entry-Level Veterinary Assistant who is motivated to learn, comfortable working with animals, and interested in building a long-term career in veterinary medicine. Position Overview The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and technicians in delivering efficient, high-quality patient care. This role is ideal for someone who is willing to be trained, eager to learn, and able to work in a structured, fast-paced hospital environment. Training will be provided. Weekend availability is required. Team members must be available to work at least every other weekend. Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Support Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care Help safely restrain dogs and cats during examinations and procedures Learn to obtain and record TPR, including temperature, pulse, and respiration Assist with exam room flow and treatment plans Help prepare patients for procedures and monitor recovery as trained Administer medications only as directed and permitted by hospital policy Maintain patient comfort, cleanliness, and safety Laboratory & Diagnostic Support Learn to collect and process blood, urine, and fecal samples Assist with in-house diagnostic testing Help maintain clean and organized treatment areas Support accurate and thorough medical records Learn hospital protocols, workflows, and patient care standards Surgical & Procedural Support Help prepare instruments, packs, and supplies Assist with patient preparation and recovery as trained Maintain cleanliness and follow hospital safety protocols Support technicians and veterinarians during procedures Client Communication Provide compassionate and professional service Help support discharge instructions as directed Assist with medication education and follow-up care instructions as trained Communicate with clients respectfully and professionally Qualifications Training will be provided Strong interest in veterinary medicine and animal care Comfortable working with dogs and cats Willingness to learn animal handling, restraint, veterinary terminology, and hospital workflows Basic computer skills required Ability to learn and work with Shepherd veterinary software Familiarity with IDEXX in-house laboratory machines is helpful but not required Ability to multitask and work effectively within a team Dependable, professional, and eager to learn Must be available to work alternating weekends Schedule Full-time position Clinic hours are 8:00 AM-7:00 PM Alternating weekends required Final schedule may vary based on hospital needs Compensation & Benefits For full-time team members: 401(k) with employer match up to 3.5% 80 hours of Paid Time Off annually, including vacation and sick leave Training and mentorship provided Stable work environment within a respected 30-year hospital Opportunity for long-term growth within the practice
