Meridian Veterinary Services Location:
Silver Spring, MD Employment Type:
Full-Time, or Part-time, On-Site. Closed on most Fridays and Saturdays. 9:45 am - 7:00ish pm.
Pay:
$19.00 - $24.00 per hour Job description: Meridian Veterinary Services is an independently owned, integrative veterinary clinic, with high standards of excellence searching for a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant. This holistic practice offers a unique blend of traditional and alternative treatments, including Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Prolotherapy, Nutritional Consultations, and more. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Support Support veterinarians and technicians during exams, diagnostics, and treatment procedures. Inform owners about negative test results. Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas with necessary supplies and equipment. Venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anal gland expression, orthopedic nail trims, and Phovia light treatment. Administer medications, vaccines, or other treatments as directed (if trained and allowed by law). Collect, label, and process lab samples (e.g., blood, urine, feces) for diagnostic testing. General anesthesia monitoring. Monitor patient conditions and promptly report changes to the veterinary team. Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and maintain medical equipment. Holistic & Integrative Support Assist in delivering a wide range of treatments including Acupuncture, Chiropractic care, therapeutic massage, regenerative medicine, energy work, and more. Ensure patients receive individualized care using both conventional and holistic resources. Client education and empowerment. Client Service & Front Desk Support Greet clients and pets with warmth and professionalism, creating a welcoming environment. Answer phones, schedule appointments, confirm visits, and manage reminder systems. Check in and check out clients; collect intake forms and update patient records accurately. Process payments, invoices, and explain estimates or treatment plans clearly and compassionately. Respond to client questions and concerns in-person, via phone, or email with empathy and professionalism. Keep the front desk, lobby, and other client-facing areas clean, tidy, and organized. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or pet care environment preferred . Customer service and/or receptionist experience strongly preferred. Completion of a veterinary assistant training program or certification is a plus, but not required. Compassionate, patient, and comfortable handling animals of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with both clients and team members. Highly organized with the ability to multitask and stay calm in a fast-paced environment.
