Job Description

Is it time to take your veterinary assistant skills to the next level? Is assisting in surgery the best part of your day? Do you want your work to make a positive difference in the world? The PAWS Clinic is seeking a part-time veterinary assistant to join our team of animal welfare professionals. We are a non-profit, affordable spay/neuter clinic working to reduce the number of homeless animals. Our focus is surgery, and we do a lot of it! We also run vaccine clinics for dogs and cats. Providing excellent patient care is our top priority, and we do it in an atmosphere that is fun, team-oriented, and supportive. Our work is very physical and demanding, but we make a real difference for the animals in our community. Responsibilities and Duties Daily duties include Assisting with patient admission and discharge Prepping animals for surgery Monitoring patients pre-, intra- and post-surgery Cleaning medical and common areas and surgical equipment Cross-training in the office assistant duties Other duties as required Qualifications and Skills Professional job experience in a veterinary clinic or volunteer work with an organized animal welfare organization is required Strong animal handling skills, including handling fractious animals Experience with venipuncture Experience accurately drawing up vaccines and medications Familiarity with dog and cat vaccine protocols Understanding of and adherence to sterile techniques Experience monitoring patients through all phases of surgery Experience prepping animals for surgery Compassion for our patients and clients A passion for superior customer service and the mission of The PAWS Clinic are a must Excellent verbal communication skills Attention to detail is critical Ability to multi-task is crucial Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision Comfortable working in an environment with loud noises and strong smells. Schedule The selected candidate must be able to work between 7am and 5:30pm Mondays-Thursdays. No weekends or evenings are required, and currently no Fridays are scheduled, although Fridays may be required at some future date. Sound like you?
