mean people, people who can't laugh at themselves and spiders Our ideal veterinary assistant would be someone who loves what they do, likes to laugh, wants to work hard and provide the best care possible for our patients. They should enjoy communicating with our clients (we have the BEST clients!), be curious about medicine and science and have a good heart . Reading choices are optional (all genres are welcome!) but be prepared for book club during surgery! (Participation is optional, but be prepared for some strong opinions!) Responsibilities Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and treatments by preparing equipment and vaccines, restraining animals, and providing support. Handle a variety of animals including dogs, cats (and occasional bunnies, geese or chickens!) with confidence, ensuring their safety and comfort through proper restraint and handling techniques. Perform animal husbandry duties such as feeding, cleaning cages, and maintaining a clean clinical environment. Help with cleaning surgical instruments and assembling surgery packs to be sterilized Support medical procedures by assisting with animal restraint during treatments. Maintain accurate record keeping for patient histories, treatment notes, medication administration logs, and other essential documentation. Comfort with front desk receptionist duties and answering phones Communicate effectively with clients regarding pet care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up care to ensure clarity and confidence. Skills Prior kennel experience or veterinary clinic experience demonstrating familiarity with animal handling and husbandry practices is required. Familiarity with knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and behavior to assist effectively in clinical settings. Experience with surgical assistance including preparation of sterile fields and supporting during surgeries. Proficiency in record keeping systems related to veterinary care and medication administration. Ability to handle dogs and cats confidently and perform animal restraint techniques safely across different species. Excellent client communication skills to provide compassionate pet care guidance and respond to client inquiries professionally.
