We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our compassionate team. The Assistant will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care for our animal patients, assisting veterinarians in various clinical and surgical procedures, and ensuring the smooth operation of our veterinary practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Perform comprehensive physical exams on animals, including taking vital signs, assessing overall health, and identifying abnormalities. Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians. Monitor patients before, during, and after surgical procedures, including anesthesia administration and recovery.
Clinical Procedures:
Collect and process laboratory samples such as blood, urine, and feces for diagnostic testing. Assist in diagnostic imaging (X-rays, ultrasounds) and interpret results under veterinary supervision. Conduct and interpret various diagnostic tests, including blood work, urinalysis, and cytology.
Surgical Assistance:
Prepare animals for surgery, including preoperative care and sterile preparation. Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures by providing necessary instruments and monitoring anesthesia. Post-surgery, manage pain control, wound care, and recovery protocols.
Client Communication:
Educate pet owners about their animals' health, treatment plans, and preventive care. Provide clear instructions for at-home care, medication administration, and follow-up visits. Address client concerns and provide support to enhance their overall experience.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for each patient. Assist with scheduling appointments, managing inventory, and ordering supplies. Process billing and handle financial transactions as needed.
Emergency Care:
Respond to emergency situations with swift and effective action. Provide immediate care and stabilization for critical patients. Collaborate with the veterinary team to develop and implement emergency protocols.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with veterinarians, fellow technicians, and support staff to ensure cohesive patient care. Participate in staff meetings and continuing education to stay current with veterinary practices and technology.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine, clinical procedures, and animal behavior. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards animals and their owners.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting. Familiarity with specific veterinary software and electronic medical records. Advanced skills in anesthesia, surgery, or specialty care areas. Bilingual is a Plus.
