Essential Job Duties Randall B. Terry Jr. Companion Animal Medical Center The Randall B. Terry Jr. Companion Animal Medical Center invites applications for a specialized position within our Internal Medicine service. This role is designed for a dedicated professional seeking to provide high-level clinical support and patient coordination within a premier academic and referral environment. As a core member of the Internal Medicine team, you will facilitate the management of complex cases, ensuring the delivery of exceptional care through advanced diagnostics, precise patient monitoring, and seamless inter-departmental collaboration.
Primary Professional Responsibilities Clinical Procedure Management:
Facilitate and perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, including endoscopy support, anesthesia monitoring for compromised patients, and sophisticated sample collection.
Advanced Patient Care:
Oversee the administration of complex treatments, including IV catheterization, venipuncture, and the calculation/titration of Constant Rate Infusions (CRIs).
Specialized Monitoring:
Provide vigilant oversight for patients presenting with critical endocrine, infectious, hematologic, and gastrointestinal pathologies.
Diagnostic Integration:
Coordinate with specialized units—including Radiology (CT, MRI, Ultrasound)—to ensure timely and accurate diagnostic outcomes.
Clinical Instruction:
Serve as a mentor and technical resource for DVM students, interns, and residents, upholding the highest standards of hospital protocol and patient advocacy.
Professional Standards Technical Proficiency:
Demonstrated experience in operating advanced medical instrumentation, including syringe pumps, invasive and non-invasive blood pressure monitors, and fluid therapy systems.
Operational Excellence:
The ability to maintain a sterile, organized, and highly efficient clinical environment in a high-volume, fast-paced setting.
Communication & Professionalism:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential for interfacing with clinicians, referring veterinarians, and clients.
Operational Requirements Environment & Physicality:
Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors. Ability to frequently lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, to ensure patient safety and operational flow. Other Responsibilities Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Experience/Education Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require additional Training, Certifications, or Licensure.
Preferred Qualifications Advanced Clinical Environment:
Proven experience working in a high-volume veterinary referral or academic teaching hospital, with a focus on internal medicine or critical care services.
Procedural Expertise:
Demonstrated proficiency in assisting with advanced diagnostic interventions, including endoscopy, bronchoscopy, or cystoscopy, and managing anesthesia for high-risk (ASA III-V) patients.
Diagnostic & Technical Leadership:
Advanced skill in operating sophisticated medical instrumentation, such as invasive blood pressure (IBP) monitors, and coordinating patient flow through specialized imaging units (CT, MRI, Ultrasound).
Clinical Mentorship:
A track record of serving as a technical mentor or clinical instructor, with experience training DVM students, interns, or junior staff on hospital protocols and advanced nursing skills.
