Role:
Experienced Veterinary Assistant Wanted — Part-Time We are looking for an experienced, compassionate, and dependable Veterinary Assistant to join our team! The ideal candidate is confident in a veterinary setting, enjoys working with both pets and people, and is comfortable supporting appointments, surgery, dentistry, and daily hospital operations.

Conveying instructions to clients and teammates to ensure successful patient care.

Following the instructions of veterinarians and sometimes patient owners. Picking up the needs of veterinarians and teammates based on prior experiences and feedback.

Clear tracking of lab specimens, medications, patient instructions, workflow, and other job-related items while managing multiple patients and clients.
Client Satisfaction:
Ensuring all activities and interactions result in the highest level of client satisfaction.
Essential Responsibilities:
Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed. Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, as well as providing client education. Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs of the patient during surgery. Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories. Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures. Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams. Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments at the discretion of the veterinarian. Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies. Assist other team members to keep the public areas of the practice clean; clean and maintain all medical equipment. Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with clients; exercise compassion and care in all interactions with patients. Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members including client discussions, patient plans, client concerns, etc. Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Qualifications & Experience:
Previous veterinary assistant experience required Experience working in small animal veterinary hospital preferred Comfortable assisting with: Wellness and sick appointments Surgical procedures Dental procedures Patient preparation and recovery Hospital treatments and patient care Strong knowledge of basic veterinary medical terminology and procedures Ability to confidently communicate with doctors, technicians, assistants, and clients
Technical Skills:
Comfortable with: Animal restraint and safe handling techniques Obtaining patient histories and assisting during exams Giving injections (vaccines and medications as directed) Collecting samples and preparing diagnostics Setting up and maintaining surgery and dental areas Monitoring patients before, during, and after procedures Cleaning, stocking, and maintaining treatment areas Ability to follow safety and sanitation protocols
Patient Care Skills:
Compassionate and gentle handling of animals Comfortable working with pets of different sizes, breeds, temperaments, and medical needs Able to recognize changes in patient behavior and communicate concerns Provides excellent care and attention to every patient

Preferred:
Experience assisting with anesthesia monitoring Experience with dental cleanings and dental radiographs Experience with surgical preparation and recovery Experience with veterinary software systems Ability to work independently while supporting the team
