Job Description

Veterinary Assistant Who We Are Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center is North Dakota's only 24/7 emergency hospital and referral center, and we have been providing exceptional care to our veterinary community since 2005! At RRAEH we can provide specialty veterinary services in Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine and Oncology and are currently seeking veterinary assistants to join our team; previous experience in veterinary medicine strongly preferred but not required. Description In the role of a RRAEH Assistant, you are supporting our veterinarians, technicians and CSRs in all areas of the hospital, and ensures a comfortable and sanitary environment for all patients at Red River Animal Emergency Hospital & Referral Center. The responsibilities vary with current needs of the hospital team, and individual abilities demonstrated by the employee. We are looking for a full-time overnight assistant. Someone who is detail oriented and able to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments. This is a fast-paced work environment and perfect for anyone who likes to stay busy.
Pay:
Starting up to $17 an hour (more with veterinary experience)
Schedule:
We are a 24/7 facility, weekends, nights and holidays are part of the normal schedule. Full-Time benefit options include (

  • Shift Differential of $5 an hour (between 8pm and 6am) As an Assistant, you will: Properly and safely restrain patients, reliably and with compassion to prepare for treatments and procedures performed by veterinarians and technicians.
Is conscious of patient comfort needs. Provide support during emergency situations, help stabilize patients, assist with triage, monitor vital signs and provide immediate care under the guidance of a veterinarian or veterinary technician. General cleaning of public and employee areas and building and yard maintenance to maintain clean, odor-free, and attractive environment. Housekeeping and laundry duties for all areas. Clean treatment area and exam rooms after each visit and prepare for the next patient. Ensure supplies are always available and adequately stocked in the treatment room and exam rooms. Assist with treatments and procedures by preparing the needed instruments and equipment. Ensure medical supplies are always stocked and available, add items to the order list when inventory is low. Assist with the operation of applicable equipment such as the Digicare monitors, patient warming devices, suction, fluid pumps, Doppler BP, endoscope, etc. Complete the daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning requirements. Discharge patients. Instruct clients on the care of patients at home, timing of recheck appointments, and potential adverse effects of surgeries, procedures, or medications. Prepare the surgery suite for upcoming surgeries. Assist the veterinary technician with patient prep and preoperative medications. Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures. Clean operating room and equipment after use and all surgical instruments. Pack and Autoclave instruments according to hospital protocol. Obtain and record patient history from clients in a timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned
