This is not an entry-level position. Applicants must have at least two years of hands-on veterinary clinic or hospital experience. Veterinary technician certification is welcome but not required. Because this is a client-facing position serving Newark's diverse community, candidates must communicate effectively in English and conversational Spanish or Portuguese. About our practice The Veterinarian Pet Alliance is a small, growing private practice serving dogs and cats throughout Newark, Northern New Jersey, and nearby New York City communities. We prioritize patient care, client care, and employee well-being over corporate-style production pressure. Our close-knit team maintains a friendly, upbeat environment with manageable caseloads, direct veterinarian mentorship, and opportunities to grow as the practice expands. Required clinical skills Every successful candidate must be comfortable performing the following duties under veterinarian supervision: Safely and compassionately handle and restrain dogs and cats Perform venipuncture and collect blood samples Run in-house laboratory testing and prepare diagnostic samples Prepare patients, instruments, and treatment areas for surgery Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures Monitor patients during post-surgical recovery Recognize changes in a patient's condition and promptly alert the veterinarian Support wellness, preventive-care, and sick-patient appointments Maintain clear and accurate patient records Communicate professionally with clients and team members We are specifically seeking one or two candidates with anesthesia-monitoring experience. This advanced skill is strongly preferred but is not required for every applicant. Additional experience with IV catheter placement, diagnostic radiography, dental radiography, dentistry, ultrasound workflows, or medication administration is highly valued. Practice equipment and technology Our clinical resources include: Full-table X-ray equipment Veterinary ultrasound Dental X-ray equipment Anesthesia machines Dental surgery equipment IDEXX and Antech diagnostic support Digitail practice-management software Previous experience with Digitail is not required. Qualifications At least two years of paid, hands-on experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital English plus conversational Spanish or Portuguese for routine client communication Demonstrated proficiency in animal restraint, blood collection, in-house laboratory work, surgical assistance, and post-operative monitoring Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety Dependable, organized, and comfortable working collaboratively Veterinary technician licensing or certification is welcome but not required Schedule We offer flexible scheduling for qualified candidates:
Full-time:
Up to 40 hours per week
Part-time:
Minimum commitment of 24 hours per week Advance time-off requests are accommodated whenever staffing permits Our current operating hours are:
Tuesday and Thursday:
10:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
Wednesday and Friday:
10:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
Saturday:
9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Specific days and hours can be discussed during the interview.
