Job Description

Join us as we open our new practice, Hidden Lake Animal Hospital! Join our team as a Veterinary Assistant and become a vital part of providing exceptional animal care! In this energetic role, you will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians by handling animal care, assisting with medical procedures, and ensuring a clean, safe environment for our furry patients. Duties Assist with animal restraint during examinations, treatments, and procedures to ensure safety for pets and staff. Support veterinarians and technicians with medication administration, including injections, oral medications, and topical treatments. Handle pet care tasks such as feeding and monitoring animals' behavior and health status. Maintain cleanliness of kennels, treatment areas, and surgical suites using proper aseptic techniques to prevent infection. Assist with laboratory work such as sample collection, processing specimens, and maintaining lab equipment. Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and communicating effectively with pet owners. Handle animal restraint safely during diagnostic procedures like blood draws or catheterizations. Maintain accurate documentation of treatments administered, medications given, and observations made during shifts. Requirements Experience in veterinary clinics or veterinary technician roles is advantageous; prior veterinary assistant experience is ideal. Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques is essential for success in this role. Strong animal husbandry skills including pet care routines and understanding of animal behavior are necessary. Ability to handle animals safely using restraint techniques suitable for various species including dogs and cats; equine experience is a plus. Competence in medication administration via different routes (oral, injectable) along with laboratory experience related to sample processing. Excellent communication skills for front desk duties and client interactions; professional demeanor required at all times. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail during procedures involving animal catheterization or other technical tasks. Willingness to learn veterinary critical care protocols and adapt quickly to new challenges within the clinic setting.
