In this role, you will provide invaluable support to our board-certified veterinary cardiologists, ensuring the highest level of care for our animal patients. As a Cardiology Veterinary Assistant, you will assist with diagnostic procedures, treatment administration, patient monitoring, and client communication.
Responsibilities:
Assist veterinarians in performing cardiology examinations, procedures, and surgeries, including electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography, and cardiac catheterization. Prepare examination rooms, ensuring they are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies and equipment. Handle and restrain animals during examinations and procedures, prioritizing their safety and well-being. Monitor and record vital signs, such as heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, during diagnostic tests and treatments. Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians Perform basic laboratory tests, such as blood draws, urine collection, and sample preparation. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, diagnostic results, and treatment plans. Educate and communicate with clients regarding their pets' cardiac conditions, treatment plans, and home care instructions. Assist with client scheduling, appointment management, and follow-up communication. Collaborate with other veterinary team members to deliver comprehensive and cohesive care to patients. Continuously stay updated on the latest advancements in veterinary cardiology through ongoing education and professional development.
Professional Requirements:
Adhere to all laws that govern Assistants in the state of Nevada. Follow all policies in the employee handbook. Present self in a professional manner, including appearance, communication, and attitude. Possess at least one year of experience working in the veterinary field. Skill Requirements (including but not limited to): Proficiency with computer use; experience with EzyVet is a plus. Excellent customer service skills, with good communication and attention to detail. Good phone etiquette when interacting with clients, referring veterinarians, and pharmacies. Excellent restraint skills for both canine and feline patients. Ability to lift 40-50 lbs. Ability to acquire accurate radiographs. Attention to cleaning in all areas, including patient cages. Assisting with laundry as needed. Strong math skills for drug and fluid calculations. Accurate filling of medication prescriptions. Knowledge of generic and brand names of commonly used medications is a plus. Accurate laboratory sample preparation and submission. Ability to perform in-house lab tests. Ability to draw blood from jugular, cephalic, and saphenous veins. Ability and willingness to follow directions and assist with procedures. Effective communication with staff and doctors regarding the needs of patients.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
