Job Description

Veterinary Surgical Center of Long Island ("VSCLI") is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our Team. VSCLI is a Specialty Referral Practice and a 24-Hour Emergency Care Hospital in Huntington, NY. We are seeking experienced and committed Veterinary Assistants for day and overnight shifts, both full-time and part-time. VSCLI is looking for a highly skilled Veterinary Assistant who is dedicated to delivering the highest quality of medicine to our patients and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Candidate

  • Provide assistance to veterinarians and credentialed technicians with appointments, prepping patients for surgery and minor procedures, surgical assisting, and pro-actively set up for any procedures or diagnostic tests
  • Maintain patient cleanliness
  • Provide patient restraint in a safe, efficient, and caring manner
  • Obtain accurate vitals, obtain medical histories, and/or note any changes of patient's condition to DVM Feeding patients
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples such as fecal, urine, and ear cytologies
  • Care and maintenance of all medical equipment including laboratory machines, surgical packs, anesthesia machines, and any other tools that are essential to daily operations
  • High quality client communication on patient updates and questions

  • Record documentation Position Knowledge & Skill Requirements Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Strong interpersonal & communication skills Meticulous to detail & organized
  • Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment and be able to manage stressful situations, and work with others on a team respectfully
  • Display tact, professionalism, and diplomacy with clients, VSCLI personnel, and fellow team members Interact intelligibly and pleasantly with clients and staff Possess a strong attention to detail Flexibility with assigned tasks which will change depending on which service you are working with.
Applicant must be flexible and able to work any area of the hospital Professional & reliable Position Qualifications
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) or above
  • Veterinary Assistant 1 year or more (preferred)
  • Veterinary experience 1 year or more (preferred)
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary medical terminology
  • Animal handling and restraint
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to use a computer.
Job Type:
Full-time Pay:
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
