Job Description
The League for Animal Welfare is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Batavia. Founded in 1949, we shelter more than 2,000 homeless animals each year; and provide affordable public veterinary programs that assist another 6,000 pets and their families. We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team! Job Summary The Vet Assistant will assist in high-volume spay/neuter surgeries for shelter and public animals; assist with shelter animal medical exams and treatments; and work in our public vaccine clinic. Applicants should be comfortable in surgery, medical diagnostics and treatment, and client-facing services. Our medical team is fun, collaborative, and passionate about helping animals and helping each other! If you care about helping animals, the League is the place for you! Responsibilities Be comfortable in surgery, including: monitoring animals while under anesthesia; prepping animals for surgery and monitoring during recovery, prepping surgery areas; cleaning surgical areas, equipment, and kennels. Be comfortable administering medications to all animals, including fluids and medication (PO, SQ, IV, IM, and IV). Be able to perform diagnostics, including blood draws, x-rays, fecals, urinalyses. Handling animals safely and properly, even with an unknown behavioral history. Interacting with clients in a friendly, positive way. Input medical data into our systems Communicate clearly with clients and other staff members Lift at least 50lbs; bend; kneel; walk strong dogs; and have reliable transportation.
