This position is for a team-member who is the primary non-operative assistant for a veterinary surgeon. The surgery practice is in a large multi-specialty referral hospital. This individual works side-by-side with the clinician to facilitate and complete all non-medical items associated with patients.
What we do:
Board-certified surgeons provide advanced surgical therapies not available through family veterinarians. Our hospital is a teaching hospital with daily rounds, and both teaching of residents, surgical interns, general interns and staff.
Job description:
This position is for a team member who is the primary non-operative assistant for a veterinary surgeon. The surgery practice is in a large multi-specialty referral hospital. This individual will work side-by-side with the clinician to facilitate and complete all non-medical items associated with patients.
The successful applicant will have:
  • Excellent communication skills - Responsible for communicating history and liaison between surgeon and clients and other clinicians
  • Superb organizational skills. Details regarding patients, charts, paperwork, and billing are the responsibility of this position
  • Great computer skills. Our hospital is paperless; therefore computer efficient
  • The ability to work in a team-oriented environment, combining talents to provide an outstanding experience for our clients and patients
  • A willingness to help contribute to a great medical team for our patients and clients
  • Familiarity with medical terminology: ideal, however not required.
  • Animal experience is ideal, however not necessary
  • Medical knowledge is an asset, however, not required.
Additionally, veterinary experience is not required
Administrative Tasks:
  • Patient Intake - primary assistant during appointments
  • Charting of histories, updates, and exams
  • Ensuring each patient has all associated paperwork, prescriptions, and laboratory testing needed
  • Ensure billing for each patient is complete daily
  • Ensuring communication between surgeon and other clinicians
  • Preparation of surgical reports, home-care instructions, and medical summaries
Animal Oriented Tasks:
  • Assist in animal restraint for exams, suture removal, radiographs, etc.
  • Escorting patients into and out of rooms
Surgical Suite Tasks:
  • Non-sterile assistance in the operating room.
  • Surgical documentation during procedures.
Schedule:
40 hour work week- follows the surgeon's schedule. Must be able to travel between both hospitals.
