Job Description

Jefferson County Humane Society is hiring a full time Veterinary Assistant. We are searching for new members to join our team and grow with us. Our office is fully computerized, provides dental services, in house laboratory, surgical services and digital radiography. Core Responsibilities Attend and bring animals back to the exam room and perform an initial evaluation of their health Handle basic care duties, including cleaning and dressing wounds, assisting doctor with administering medication, collecting samples, and checking vitals Assist with diagnostic imaging and lab work, including blood tests and analysis of urine samples Aid the veterinarian during surgeries and other procedures by sterilizing tools, stocking the exam and operating rooms, and confirming that equipment is all working properly Care for animals by feeding and watering, cleaning rooms and cages, and watching for signs of health problems Communicate with owners and families to inform and educate them about animal conditions and proper care Update patient files, review care plans, and handle other administrative duties as necessary Candidates must be a self-starter with the ability to type, communicate and articulate well with doctors, clients and staff members, be able to complete directions from doctors and want to be part of a team.
