Assistant Job Description Patient Care
- Fear Free Restraint
- TPRs
- Draw blood and collect stool or urine samples for appropriate tests
- Perform basic procedures: nail trims, ear cleaning, anal glands, suture and staple removals, skin scraping, and other procedures as directed by a veterinarian. Functions
- Prepare vaccines
- Demonstrate proper medication administration
- Review products and diets with owners
- Fill prescriptions and explain instructions with owners
- Fill out exam notes, input vaccine history and reminders, complete charges accurately
- Transition appointments that turn into patients that need hospitalization treatments
- Fill prescriptions
- Obtain Radiographs
- Have knowledge of and follow contagious diseases and isolation protocols Communication
- Greet patients and clients by name
- Bill for patient care
- Communicate with clients about test results, appointment scheduling and medications
- Educate clients about diseases, giving handouts
- Educating new puppies and kitten owners
- Complete estimates and discuss with clients
- Communicate with clients for doctors in-person, by phone, text message, or email
- Make sure doctors get appropriate lab results and the results are put into the patient record
- Verify technician notes, TPR, and doctor notes are in the computer for each patient
