  • 17 per hour Veterinary Assistant Position Summary The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the veterinary healthcare team, supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering high-quality care to animals.
This role involves a combination of hands-on animal care, clinical support, and administrative responsibilities to ensure the clinic operates efficiently and patients receive exceptional care. Veterinary Assistant Key Responsibilities Animal Care & Handling Assist with safely restraining and handling animals during exams and procedures Ensure the comfort, safety, and well-being of all patients Laboratory Support Prepare and process lab samples (blood, urine, fecal) as directed Accurately document and maintain lab results Medical Equipment & Treatment Support Clean, sterilize, and maintain equipment and exam rooms Assist with medical procedures and treatment setup Patient Monitoring Observe patients before, during, and after procedures Report any changes in condition or concerns promptly Animal Husbandry Provide daily care including feeding, grooming, and bathing Administer medications as directed Maintain clean and sanitary enclosures and hospital areas Client Interaction Support client communication, including scheduling and answering calls Provide basic education on treatments and post-care instructions Inventory Management Assist with ordering, stocking, and organizing supplies Monitor expiration dates and properly dispose of outdated items Administrative Support Maintain medical records, assist with billing, and complete general clerical tasks Veterinary Assistant Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Previous veterinary or animal-related experience preferred Basic knowledge of animal care and handling Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organization and time management abilities Basic computer proficiency Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work with animals of varying sizes and temperaments #

Examine animals to detect behavioral changes or clinical symptoms that could indicate illness or injury. Perform routine laboratory tests or diagnostic tests, such as taking or developing x-rays. Assist veterinarians in examining animals to determine the nature of illnesses or injuries. Administer medication, immunizations, or blood plasma to animals as prescribed by veterinarians. Collect laboratory specimens, such as blood, urine, or feces, for testing. Perform office reception duties, such as scheduling appointments or helping customers. Clean, maintain, and sterilize instruments or equipment. Record information relating to animal genealogy, feeding schedules, appearance, behavior, or breeding. Provide emergency first aid to sick or injured animals.
