Job Description
East Hills Animal Clinic is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Veterinary Assistant/Technician to help us provide the exceptional patient care we are known for! The work we do is exciting, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. We are open five days a week, and as a busy small animal clinic, we offer our patients much more than routine wellness examinations and vaccines. We regularly perform surgical procedures and utilize advanced medical diagnostic equipment, including digital standard and dental X-ray, ultrasound, and an in-house lab and pharmacy.
Job Requirements Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT) preferred. On-the-job training accepted for non-CVTs.Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry records and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires sitting and standing for extended periods.Working Conditions:
May be exposed to unpleasant odors, loud noises, and animal feces. Possible exposure to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide compassionate care to patients and clients. Conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner, even in stressful situations or when focused on individual tasks. Maintain accurate and legible medical records in accordance with hospital policy. Prepare and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas. Perform physical assessments and document observations accurately. Safely and effectively restrain pets, including large or difficult animals. Understand and explain common vaccinations and protocols to clients. Contribute to a clean, organized, and professional environment; cleaning is part of normal job duties. Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with coworkers. Administer SQ, IM, and IV injections. Handle client medical inquiries with confidence, deferring to veterinarians when necessary. Prepare procedure estimates and discuss financial responsibilities with clients in alignment with hospital financial policies. Explain necessary follow-up care and home instructions. Understand usage, dosage, and common side effects of frequently prescribed medications and communicate this to clients. Maintain appropriate inventory levels of medical supplies per the clinic's inventory system. Assist veterinarians with medical, surgical, and dental procedures. Prepare patients for surgery; administer and monitor anesthesia; assist in recovery and fluid administration. Maintain surgical instruments and operating room cleanliness and readiness. Perform emergency procedures such as bleeding control, oxygen resuscitation, airway management, and cardiac massage. Conduct lab procedures including fecal flotations, heartworm tests, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draw blood for analysis; manage lab records and ensure timely entry of results. Take and position patients for radiographs. Perform electrocardiograms (ECGs). Place and manage IV catheters; understand the use and maintenance of IV pumps. Recognize signs of common diseases and alert veterinarians to changes in hospitalized patients. Prepare both the patient and equipment for ultrasound procedures. Admit patients per hospital policy and doctor's written instructions. Discharge patients according to veterinarian instructions, ensuring they are clean and in a medically appropriate condition.
