A Veterinary Assistant assists with animals under veterinary care or in laboratories. Feeds animals, cleans cages, and administers medical treatment under the supervision of a veterinarian or veterinary technician. Works in a veterinary clinic, animal hospital, or laboratory.
Overview A Veterinary Assistant is a vital member of the veterinary healthcare team, providing essential support to veterinarians and veterinary technicians in the care and treatment of animals. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from direct animal care and handling to administrative and clinical support tasks. Veterinary Assistants contribute significantly to the overall well-being of patients by ensuring their comfort, safety, and adherence to treatment plans. They also play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient clinic environment. Schedule & Availability We are currently hiring for the following core shift, with the understanding that hours may be extended based on the needs of the clinic: Schedule 4 days/week plus Saturday rotation. 7:10 AM - 12:30 PM What You'll Do 1. Clinical Support & Patient Care (Cornerstones of Health & Care)
Patient Intake & History:
Enthusiastically greet clients, obtain thorough patient medical histories, record accurate TPRs (Temperature, Pulse, Respiration), and begin SOAPs within our software.
Medical & Diagnostic Support:
Assist with comprehensive health exams, capture basic imaging, and set up basic in-house laboratory work.
Patient Restraint:
Confidently and safely restrain companion animals, horses, and livestock for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
Surgery & Dental Prep:
Complete full surgical and dental suite setups, assist in administering preoperative medications, and sterilize instruments.
Client Education:
Confidently discuss and recommend protocols for vaccinations, nutrition, parasite prevention, grooming, behavior solutions, and zoonotic disease awareness.
Pharmacy & Boarding:
Accurately prepare and dispense prescriptions as directed by the doctor, share medication details with clients, and provide daily

to boarding patients.
Compassionate Care:
Maintain strict confidentiality and provide empathetic support and comfort to grieving clients. 2.
Front Office & Financial Management PIMS Administration:
Utilize Shepherd software to build accurate estimates, create invoices, check in day-admissions, and update patient reminders.
Client Communications:
Manage multiline phone systems, coordinate text/email inquiries, handle client payments/receipts, and actively participate in client callbacks.
Strategic Support:
Actively promote preventive health care and pet health insurance while reinforcing clinical messaging shared by fellow staff members. 3.
Facility Care, Biosecurity & Property Maintenance Clinic Sanitation:
Execute strict janitorial protocols, keeping the interior facility, exam rooms, treatment floor, and surgery suites impeccably clean and organized.
Curb Appeal & Exterior Care:
Routinely clear debris, trash, or feces from the parking lot, sidewalks, and entryways. Preserve the clinic's exterior look by watering the lawn and flowers.
Daily Operations:
Manage continuous medical laundry operations, properly recycle materials, and monitor/restock clinical and janitorial inventory.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
Previous hands-on experience working as a veterinary assistant in a clinical setting is required . Competency with both small animals and large animals (equine/livestock) is highly preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Comfort learning digital platforms; experience with Shepherd PIMS is a massive plus.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for extended periods, work flexible hours (including weekends/holidays), and safely lift or carry up to 50 pounds.

Daily exposure to animals, animal waste, cleaning chemicals, and varying outdoor Pacific Northwest weather conditions for grounds/barn upkeep.
