Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Greets client/patient and escorts to the examination room. Pre-screens all patients, obtains detailed medical history and verifies and gathers relevant patient information as it relates to the procedure; performs prompt triage of critical patients. Prepares treatment rooms by setting up equipment and arranging designated instruments and materials as needed for appointments. Restrains and assists animals for Veterinarian during exams and surgical procedures as required. Provides gentle and compassionate care of patients throughout their stay. Provides appropriate customer service in all client interactions and demonstrates ability to work professionally with clients in varying emotional states. Prepares and verifies medication for accuracy and fills prescriptions, injections, and completes patient notes. Assists in patient care and medical treatments as directed by technical staff or doctor. Documents services rendered, lab results, and other related information in patient records. Maintains and uses in-house lab equipment to process samples; ensures samples are handled correctly to avoid degradation of sample. Collects, prepares and submits laboratory specimens for analysis. Performs x-rays and digital radiographs in a safe and effective manner as directed by technical staff or doctor. Assists in minor grooming procedures such as nail trims, anal glands, and ear cleanings. Calls clients and provides post-surgical status and documents all conversations in accordance with hospital policy. Provides client education regarding nutrition, vaccination protocols, parasite control, and spaying and neutering procedures. Ensures exam room areas and animal cages are maintained in a clean and orderly manner at all times. Monitors stock in exam rooms and restocks as needed. Supports inventory by requesting, unpacking, labeling and stocking hospital supplies adhering to budget controls and efficiency management. Relay appropriate information to/from clients to doctors and/or management. Adheres to the established daily schedule and maintains a flexible schedule to include evening hours. Follows all company policies and procedures paying special attention to patient care and safety. Attends and participates in all staff meetings as well as attends all trainings required by the practice or state licensing requirements. Perform other related duties as assigned.
