Overview Are you an experienced Veterinary Assistant looking to grow your career in a fast-paced, team-oriented veterinary hospital? At Shandon-Wood Animal Clinic, we are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our exceptional team. As an Experienced Veterinary Assistant, you will play an essential role in delivering high-quality patient care while supporting our veterinarians, licensed technicians, and support staff. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys building relationships with clients and patients, and is passionate about providing outstanding veterinary medicine. In this role, you will assist with patient restraint and handling, outpatient appointments, treatments, diagnostics, surgical and dental procedures, laboratory testing, client communication, and hospital cleanliness. You will be expected to utilize your veterinary knowledge and experience to anticipate patient needs, support efficient workflow, and help create a positive experience for both clients and their pets. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in a veterinary hospital, strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and professional in a busy clinical setting. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures once trained. Perform animal restraint techniques to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian. Conduct laboratory tests, including blood work and urinalysis. Monitor vital signs and provide post-operative care to animals. Maintain accurate medical records for each patient. Prepare animals for surgery, including animal catheterization when necessary. Ensure cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including kennel areas. Utilize aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection. Educate pet owners on proper pet care, nutrition, and training techniques. Requirements License or degree in Veterinary Technology is preferred. Experience in pet care or animal husbandry is highly desirable. Proficiency in animal restraint methods and handling techniques. Familiarity with laboratory procedures relevant to veterinary medicine. Knowledge of dog training principles is a plus. Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely and effectively. Strong communication skills to interact with pet owners compassionately. A commitment to maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Ability to work well in a team-oriented setting while also being self-motivated.
