Job Description

We are looking for an overnight Veterinary Assistant to care for animals and support our board certified surgeon. You'll play an important role in bringing comfort to our furry patients and ensuring the smooth running of our facility. One of the most important Veterinary Assistant responsibilities is to ensure all areas are clean and organized. We'll rely on you to assist the Veterinarian in examinations and general operations. You need the ability to care for our patients properly - that's one of the most important Vet Assistant job requirements. This includes knowledge of routine tasks, like feeding, administering medications, but also readiness to care for injured or scared animals that might occasionally lash out. If you're organized, quick on your feet and have the stomach to help with medical operations, we'd like to meet you. Overnight shift requires additional self initiative and attentiveness towards patient needs. Special overnight bonus may apply to these shifts! Responsibilities Feed, medicate and care for pets Clean cages and patient care areas Prepare medical equipment for procedures Restrain pets during examinations Communicate with client about patient history and post operative care Soothe upset or frightened pets Administer medication as prescribed by the veterinarian Observe pet behavior or health condition and report to the veterinarian Help in cases of emergencies Handle administrative duties such as medical document handling or calling clients with patient updates Keep accurate records and logs Assist with surgical procedures Skills Proven experience as a Veterinary Assistant or similar position working with animals Attention to detail Current or former pet ownership is an advantage Excellent communication skills Patient and caring personality Ability to follow instructions properly Comfortable being around animals (cats, dogs.) Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. lift up to 40 lbs, standing for long periods of time) Availability to occasionally work in emergencies High school diploma; a certificate from a Veterinary Assistant program is a plus
